With the generous support of the San Diego Foundation’s Creative Catalyst Grant, in the fall of 2016 Michelle brought handbuilt oversized knitting looms to over 32 schools, shelters, senior centers, after school programs, colleges and public spaces, engaging over 1000 people.  Using thrift store tshirts cut into strips as the knitting material, participants sit together, and with a few simple instructions, knit on the looms.  The project is grounded in the power of making something with your hands, the conversation and story telling that takes place while sitting at the table, the translation of a domestic craft into a cultural object and the scale of a community effort.  The finished knitted pieces are part of an installation at the Oceanside Museum of Art opening March 25, 2017.
